How Do We Tell Reality From Fiction?

Our ability to tell apart reality from fiction is one that we take for granted in our day-to-day lives. Through novels, movies and other mediums, we are able delve into fictional worlds and experience a wide range of multiple alternate realities. The curious thing is that even when we are fully absorbed and emotionally changed within these worlds, we are readily able to leave these fictional realms and getting back to the day-to-day of our own world. How are we able to do this? This virtual talk explores how human beings develop an understanding of the reality/fiction distinction.
