George Frein from Ft Worth, TX
George Frein, Ph.D., is a nationally acclaimed Chautauqua performer who started in the Great Plains Chautauqua in the mid 1980’s and has performed consistently ever since.
In 1998 he was newly retired from the University of North Dakota Department of Religion when his wife Shelly became a professor at Furman University.
In 1999 with the help of the South Carolina Humanities Council and local Greenville heroes like Judy Bainbridge, AV Huff, Duff Bruce and Lucy and Tom Tiller, George produced the first Greenville Chautauqua Festival. And that was the beginning of the story.
George served as Greenville Chautauqua’s Artistic Director from 1999 until he moved to Ft Worth, TX.
